The hearing scheduled at the Criminal Court this Wednesday in the case against former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has been cancelled again.

Maumoon has major criminal charges pressed against him including terrorism, obstruction of justice and bribery and is currently being kept detained at the Dhoonidhoo Custodial.

The half-brother of incumbent President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, Maumoon was arrested within hours a State of Emergency was declared in Maldives on February 5, following the Supreme Court order on February 1, which Yameen’s administration has declared as a plot to remove the administration from power.

A hearing in the case was scheduled for last Tuesday as well. But the hearing was cancelled due to Maumoon’s poor health.

It is not yet clear if this Wednesday’s hearing was cancelled for the same reason.

This is the third consecutive time for Maumoon’s court hearing to be cancelled.

The family reports that Maumoon has been diagnosed with vertigo, and that his doctor has instructed that someone keep an eye on him 24/7.

The family has repeatedly requested that Maumoon be transferred to house arrest.
