Press barred from Hassan Saeed’s hearing

Judicial Administrator at Department of Judicial Administration (DJA), Hassan Saeed’s hearing in the obstruction of State charge against him this Monday was held behind closed doors.

The hearing was held at 1 pm this Monday at the Criminal Court.

The reason for the closed hearing has not been disclosed by the court.

Hassan Saeed was arrested under the State of Emergency in February.

The police had issued an ATL alert (attempt to locate) alert for his arrest even before the State of Emergency was invoked on February 5. At the time, the Supreme Court had cancelled the arrest warrant against Hassan Saeed and ordered the Criminal Court to forward all documents related to the case to the Supreme Court.

He was arrested from the Supreme Court (along with Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed and Supreme Court Judge Ali Hameed) within hours the State of Emergency was invoked.

Hassan Saeed is also under investigation for an attempt to overthrow President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration.
