Alhan Fahmy, President of the ruing Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Member of Parliament for Feydhoo Constituency, has said that Adaalath Party’s decision to bring an end to their coalition with MDP is a decision contrary to the teachings of Islam.
Addressing a gathering held last night at MDP’s Haruge, Alhan said that the Noble Quran expressly commanded Muslims to obey rulers, and that going against the rulers and speaking in ways that would create mischief against the rulers is against the fundamental principles of Islamic shariah.
Alhan said that Adaalath decided to terminate coalition with MDP without any reason, and that it is not acceptable in accordance with the teachings of Islam.
“God commands us in the Noble Quran, very clearly, that Muslims are obliged to obey God, then His Messenger, and then the rulers. Hence, rebelliously confronting rulers and uttering speech that would create hatred against the rulers is something against Islam. Adaalath decided to severe relationship and cooperation with MDP without any wrong on the part of President Nasheed, and I would say that it is definitely in contravention to Islam”, said Alhan.
Alhan said that Adaalath terminated coalition with MDP with an ill intention, and that the purpose is only to damage the reputation of MDP, and that Adaalath should reconsider its decision.
“When a political party which has tied itself to us leaves us, it is something to think about. However, I would tell the members of MDP that Adaalath leaving us is no cause for concern when we see the issue politically”, said Alhan.
