Criminal Court has ordered the release of South Machangolhi MP Abdulla Sinan.
Sinan was arrested upon arrival to Maldives, along with Dhangethi MP Ilham Ahmed last Sunday.
He was released by the court during his remand hearing this Monday afternoon.
Sinan is accused of conspiring to overthrow the government by bribing parliamentarians. The State prosecution had asked the court to remand him to police custody, pending the outcome of the trial.
At the remand hearing, Sinan protested that the allegations against him were baseless, and that the State had no evidence to back their allegations.
The judge presiding over the case, Judge Adam Areef ordered that Sinan be released from custody over lack of sufficient evidence to warrant his detention.
