The runway of the Velana International Airport has been closed temporarily.
General Manager of Corporate Communications at the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Hassan Areef, told Sun Media that the runway is closed to make a repair.
He said that the runway is closed until 5 p.m. and only large planes cannot be accommodate at this time.
Flights have been disrupted across airlines after the runway was closed with a plane of Sri Lankan Airlines coming in from Colombo and a plane of Emirates coming in from Dubai being diverted elsewhere.
And two domestics flights coming in from Dharavandhoo and one from Maamigili, being operated by Maldivian, has been delayed.
Along with domestic and international flights departing from Velana International Airport.
