Maldives Transport Authority has amended the taxi law banning taxis from taking a fare while they have a customer.
The gazette publication from the Transport Authority said that taking on separate fares while a customer is already in the taxi is no longer legal with the fourth amendment to the law.
It has been a common complaint from people that some taxi drivers take on other fares without asking while they are in the car and complete the later fare before that of the customers who got on before.
The new law banning consecutive taxi fares is being implemented effective from today.
