Documents relating to eight out of the ten people, whose nude photos and videos had been used to blackmail them, have been leaked in Male’.
Police had forwarded these cases to the Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office after investigations revealed that they had been victims of an internet blackmailing scam.
Sun Online has received copies of all the leaked documents.
The documents contain one-page information on each of the eight persons, and also information on a person from Hithadhoo who has been identified by the Police as a blackmailer.
There is no information on the minor involved in the case.
Police recently officially revealed names and photos of the suspected blackmailers, following which the Police were criticised for not revealing information on those who were blackmailed.
The blackmailed people are MDP National Council member and Baarah MP Mohamed Shifaz, 32; Lieutenant Colonel Rt. Ibrahim Afzal, 44; Chairman of STELCO and Head of Cyrix college Ahmed Shareef, 43; former movie star and current presenter at VTV Ali Waheed, 40; former Director of Male’ Municipality Adam Shakir, 59; footballer and member of People’s Special Majlis Anwar Ali, 38; Ahmed Ziyad Mohamed, 24; and Shahurab Abdullah, 24.
Ibrahim Afzal retired from his post on 18 June 2011, following the spread of rumours in this regard in Male’.
Shakir resigned on 3 April 2011 from his post at Male’ Municipality, for similar reasons. He had also been suspended by CSC.
Police Media Official refused to answer Sun Online’s questions on the leaked information, and it has so far not been possible to contact PG Ahmed Muizz.
The people facing charges in relation to this crime are Mohamed Mumin, 26; Ahmed Mohamed, 26; Hussain Shah, 24; Mohamed Minsar, 24; Azmeen Ishaag, 23; Ibrahim Ishaag, 20; Ahmed Thaif, 21; Mohamed Ishaag, 27; Ali Ishaag (26) and a minor.
The blackmailers collected large amounts of money from those who were blackmailed. Fake Facebook and MSN accounts were used for this scam.
Police commenced investigations into this case in 2010; however their efforts were disrupted due to the influence of various persons.
Investigations were resumed following the change of government.
