Date for CNI to submit report extended to 30 Aug

The President’s Office has said that President Dr Mohamed Waheed, by decree, has extended the date for submission of the Commission of National Inquiry’s investigative report on the events related to the transfer of power.

The date has been extended to 30 August 2012.

The Commission of National Inquiry is to submit its report to the President, the Speaker of the Parliament, the Prosecutor General, and the Attorney General.

The President made this decision as the commission felt the need for an extension from the original due date, 31 July 2012.

CNI Co-chair and retired Singaporean Judge G.P Selvam said that the delay was due to delays in resuming work after the CNI was reformed, and also due to the large number of people who had registered to provide information to the CNI.
