MDP notified by City Council to remove

City Council has notified Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to remove the prayer house constructed at Usfasgandu.

City Council member Ibrahim Sujau told Sun Online today that a letter was sent to MDP in this regard last week by Mayor Maizan Ali Manik.

Sujau said that the notification was sent following Islamic Ministry’s advice, that a permit must be obtained prior to constructing such a building.

“This issue is different from the Usfasgandu issue. This is about constructing a prayer house. We have to put a stop to that, that’s why we had to send the letter,” Sujau said.

He said that MDP had replied to City Council’s letter, refusing to remove the prayer house.

Sujau described this as a politicised response.

MDP has also disregarded Islamic Ministry’s notification to remove the prayer house. Usfasgandu has been leased long-term to MDP to hold political activities.
