Largest opposition party, MDP, has voted to bring one candidate from the opposition party for the Presidential Election 2018.
MDP made the decision in a resolution passed by the party council.
The resolution states that the candidate for the Presidential Election will be selected by the joint opposition coalition after discussions.
The MDP resolution also states reasons as to why only one candidate including that the party believes that the Elections Commission and other independent institutes are under the government's influence.
Reasons also include that MDP believes the government controlling and influencing the parliament through the use of the military.
MDP said that they want to defeat President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom by bringing one candidate from the united opposition for the election.
Adhaalath Party has also decided to join the opposition coalition for the Presidential Election and the Parliament Election.
