MVR 234 million has been allocated in the projected State budget for 2018 to increase the salaries of civil servants.
Presenting the budget to People’s Majlis this Wednesday, Minister of Finance, Ahmed Munawwar said hardworking and loyal civil servants were vital to smooth running of the State, and that it was therefore important to bring a change to the salaries of civil servants.
“Therefore, MVR 234 million has been allocated in the budget for 2018 for a salary increment to civil servants,” said Munawwar.
He said that in addition to a salary increment, 1,000 housing units have been allocated for civil servants under the State housing project.
The budget allocation for salary increment comes after the promise by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom of “something hopeful” for civil servants in 2018.
