The people of H. Dh. Kulhudhuffushi are seen thirsting for development, says Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Muizzu made the comment speaking at the function held to lay the foundation for a bottling plant at Kulhudhuffushi, this Sunday morning.
Muizzu said he has witnessed the entire people of Kulhudhuffushi united in their work for development of the island, and cooperation in infrastructure development projects run by the State.
“The people of this island are thirsty for development. To experience development… this is what every Kulhudhuffushi citizen – from young to old – want,” said Muizzu.
The housing minister also addressed the controversial airport development project underway on the island.
He said the people of Kulhudhuffushi had long been dreaming of an airport on the island. He said the dream was now becoming a reality, and said the people of Kulhudhuffushi were supportive of the project.
He pointed out to the celebration by Kulhudhuffushi citizens, last Saturday, near MTCC’s dredger “Maha Jaffar” which is at the island to reclaim part of the island’s mangrove to build the airport. He said he had never seen such celebration before.
“This shows how much the people of Kulhudhuffushi want an airport built on the island. This also shows their acceptance of President [Abdulla] Yameen [Abdul Gayoom]’s policies, and their sentiments towards it,” said Muizzu.
He said the people of Kulhudhuffushi fully backed President Yameen’s policy for development of the island. And were supportive of the airport development project.
“A major health project has been launched on the island. This project too, once complete, will make health services at the island the best in the region,” said Muizzu, talking about the plans to build a tertiary hospital at Kulhudhuffushi in 2018.
