Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that they are working to bring the beams for the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge will be brought to the country before the end of January 2018.
Dr. Muizzu visited China in September to observe the work on the steel box guard and the beam. Speaking to the press before his trip, the Minister said that they could complete the work on the beams before the end of December.
In a tweet sent out today, the Housing Minister said that the beams that all the beams will be brought to the Maldives before the end of January next year.

While the bridge will have a beam between every two of the four columns of the bridge. Minister Muizzu said that the China factory is building two beams of 50 meters and a 22 meter beam and will be brought to the country in fabrication.
The China-Maldives Friendship Bridge being built between Malé City and Hulhulé will be 1.39 kilometers long and 20 meters wide with two lanes for four-wheel vehicles, two lanes for motorcycles along with separate lanes for bicycles and foot traffic.
The project worth USD 300 million is funded with a USD 100 million of free-aid from China and USD 170 million on loan from China with an interest rate of 2 percent. The Maldivian government is spending USD 30 million on the project.
