An explosion on board a diving boat harbored at K. Guraidhoo has burned down the vessel beyond repair.
An eyewitness reported to “Sun” that the boat caught fire this Saturday morning while it was harbored at the jetty. The witness reported the fire was put out through the joint effort of police officers and locals.
“We were in the next district when we heard the explosion. The boat was on fire when we went there,” said the witness.
The witness said he could not say what had actually exploded, but that the only explosive items on board the boat had been cooking gas cylinders and oxygen cylinders.
No one was harmed during the incident, but the fire damaged the boat beyond repair.
“The citizens of the island and police officers pushed the boat away from the jetty and put out the fire using water. The fire was almost completely out by the time the MNDF fire and rescue team arrived,” said the witness.
MNDF reported the authority received report of the fire at 10 am. And that firefighters were operating at the site.
