Elections Commission (EC) of the Maldives has responded to the statement by the EU Parliamentary Group calling to create a free atmosphere to hold the Presidential Election next year.
In a press statement issued by the EC today, they said that elections are held within the laws and regulations of the country and the international standards in a free and transparent way.
The statement said that they would remain firmly in their efforts to make the Presidential Election a free and fair election.
In the statement issued following the EU Parliamentary Group's visit to the Maldives, they said that they have asked President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to create a fair and free atmosphere for the Presidential Election 2018.
EC responded to the EU Parliamentary Group saying that the recent local council election also a free and fair election and has been accepted as such as the political parties and international observers.
The EC statement also called to all parties to put an end to the efforts to contort the truth and mislead the public in regards to the work of the Elections Commission.
