Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has dismissed three parliamentarians from the party.
Thimarafushi MP Mohamed Mustafa, North Thinadhoo MP Saudhulla Hilmy and North Fuvahmulah MP Ali Shah were dismissed from PPM by its Disciplinary Committee upon conclusion of review of complaints lodged against the three parliamentarians.
Secretary-General of PPM, Nilandhoo MP Ibrahim Khaleel reported to “Sun” this Monday that the votes to dismiss the three parliamentarians had been unanimous. He said PPM has now sent a letter to the Elections Commission asking that the three parliamentarians be removed from the list of PPM members.
“As you well know, the three parliamentarians had even endorsed the petition for impeachment of Speaker of People’s Majlis, Abdulla Maseeh. They faced additional complaints for violating the PPM Parliamentary Group’s whip-line,” said Khaleel.
The Disciplinary Committee’s decision comes months after Mustafa and Saudhulla requested that they be removed from the party. PPM had stated at the time a decision would be made after the Disciplinary Committee completed review of complaints lodged against the two parliamentarians.
The additional dismissals come after PPM’s earlier dismissal of six more parliamentarians; Vilingili MP Saud Hussain, Thulusdhoo MP Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim (Lawyer Wadde), Maduvvari MP Mohamed Ameeth Ahmed Manik, Dhidhdhoo MP Abdul Latheef Mohamed, South Machangolhi MP Abdulla Shinan, and Dhangethi MP Ilhaam Ahmed.
Elections Commission has announced by-elections for the six constituencies.
