Opposition politicians meet EU delegates

Opposition politicians have met for discussions with the visiting delegates from the European Parliament to share their concerns over the political situation in Maldives.

Opposition politicians met with the four visiting European Parliament members at Hotel Jen, last Sunday night.

Deputy Leader of Jumhoory Party, Abdulla Riyaz tweeted after the meeting that the opposition had requested the EU’s support for an all-inclusive, free and fair presidential election in 2018.

Opposition politicians who attended the three-hour meeting with the European Parliament delegates are; Riyaz, North Machangolhi MP Mariya Ahmed Didi, North Galolhu MP Eva Abdulla, Addu-Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam, Maduvvari MP Mohamed Ameeth, former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s daughter – Yumna Maumoon, and Head of Adhaalath Party’s Foreign Relations Committee – Shidhatha Shareef.

The delegates from European Parliament are scheduled to meet officials from the Maldivian government this Monday.
