AG to advise on opening of restaurants and cafes in parks

Housing Ministry has said that the Attorney General’s (AG) advice will be sought on taking action against ‘Fini Park’ opened in front of Sosun Store on Majeedee magu last night, when the Ministry had advised against doing so.

Housing Minister Mohamed Muizz said that the two-storey building in Fini Park was constructed without obtaining the necessary permits, and stressed that this will not be tolerated.

Male’ City Council said that the park opened last night was one at the empty space near Majeedee magu and Alhivila magu junction called ‘Capus Park’, and ‘City Park’ will be opened next Friday at the empty space near the old powerhouse.

Housing Ministry has informed that despite several empty spaces in Male’ being leased out by City Council to private groups, the government will not provide compensation for buildings constructed on these spaces.

City Council has said that the Council has the authority to utilise the empty spaces in Male’; while Housing Ministry says that the Council uses the empty spaces in violation of the relevant agreements.

Housing Ministry has notified City Council to vacate Usfasgandu on several occasions, including the recent seven-day notice for Usfasgandu to be emptied.
