Three people arrested for threatening a magistrate

Three people have been arrested in G.A. Dhaandhoo for threatening, and afterwards trying to attack the island Magistrate Luayy Ibrahim.

A Police Media Official said today that the case was filed with the police on Thursday night, and that three people have been arrested. However, he did not reveal the identities of those arrested.

According to a reliable source from Dhaandhoo, those arrested are Abdul Razzaq Mohamed, Noobahaaruge, Dhaandhoo, Mohamed Moosa, Seena, Dhaandhoo, and Abdulla Hassan, Minaage, Dhaandhoo. All of them are currently in police detention at G.A. Vilingili, the capital of G.A. Atoll.

According to Dhaandhoo Court, Magistrate Luayy was walking home from the mosque after his afternoon prayers, when a man approached him and told him to “be careful, otherwise the consequences would not be very desirable”. The man then tried to assault Magistrate Luayy with his hands, but the hand was blocked by another person right next.

According to Dhaandhoo Court, the threat and attempted attack may have been caused by a decision made by Magistrate Luayy in a case involving the perpetrators. The case arose when a fishing boat from Dhaandhoo found a dingy on the sea, which belonged to the nearby Falhuma Fushi Resort. The Resort requested the finders to hand over the dingy, and they refused, following which the Resort management filed the case with the police.

The Police applied for a warrant enabling them to enter the place where the dingy was hidden by those who found it, and Magistrate Luayy issued the order. The attack was apparently because of the grant of this warrant.
