Police officer drowns in uninhabited island near G. A. Vilingili

A police officer drowned while out swimming with his family in an uninhabited island near G. A. Vilingili this Wednesday.

President of Vilingili Council, Ahmed Fuad reported to “Sun” that the police officer was originally from another island, but was married to a local.

“He was found dead after the current grew stronger and they looked for him after he disappeared,” said Fuad.

Police media official reported that the police officer and his wife had been caught in the current while they were out swimming.

The woman survived but the police officer was later found dead.

Police media official said the G. A. Atoll Hospital confirmed the officer had been dead when taken to the hospital.

The incident was reported to the police at 11:25 am.
