Officer injured after accident on way to rescue drowning victim

A police officer who rushed to rescue the G. A. Vilingili drowning victims this Wednesday suffered extensive injuries after running into an accident.

The police officer had been on his way to rescue another officer who drowned to death while out swimming in an uninhabited island near Vilingili with his wife. The wife had survived.

Manager of G. A. Atoll Hospital, Nazleen Najib reported the hospital was arranging for the officer to be sent to Male’ City for treatment.

President of Vilingili Council, Ahmed Fuad reported to “Sun” that the officer had been on his motorcycle from the police station on his way to the harbor when it crashed with a motorcycle being driven by a minor.

“The minor had been on his way to share news of the drowning of the police officer and his wife,” said Fuad.

Fuad said the officer had broken his teeth and crushed the right-side of his face in the accident.
