MVR 3 million for projects from 14 councils

The government has give MVR 3 million to 14 Island Councils to conduct their small projects.

At a special ceremony held at the Home Ministry today, the symbolic documents to the respective councils were presented by the Home Minister, Azleen Ahmed.

Home Ministry said that 51 councils requested funds under the project to make minor developments to their islands with a total of 71 proposals.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Azleen said that the special project initiated by the President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has been very successful. And said that such funding has been provided twice before and the councils have arranged a number of things to the people.

The Minister assured that similar donations will be made in the future as well and the government aims to provide such aid to all the islands.

The Island Councils that received the donations today are of the islands of Haa Alifu, Baa, Gaafu Alifu, Alifu Dhaalu, Faafu and Meemu atolls.

Home Ministry said that they have prioritized giving help to the islands that have not received such donations through the Ministry and focused on projected closely related to the public.
