The secretary of the Haa Dhaalu Hirimaradhoo Island Council has been arrested and an arrest warrant has been issued for the President of the Council.
President of the Hirimaradhoo Island Council, Mohamed Waheed confirmed to Sun Media that the secretary of the council, Hassan Nizaaru has been arrested under a court order and said that the court order also warrants the arrest of the Council President. He said that the police have not come to him with the court order.
Council President, Waheed, said that the secretary was arrested following the repairs of the building which contains the Island Council and the court.
While some media outlets have reported that a wall was build so that one cannot access the court from the island council office, the President of the Council, Waheed has said that the reports are false.
He said that even the pictures show that no wall was built.
The Hirimaradhoo Island Council President said that the courthouse is also on the same building as the Island Council and the building is registered under the Home Ministry.
Waheed said that the repairs were made after discussing with the court as well and with the approval of the Home Ministry.
Council President Waheed said that the reports from some media that says the council closed the courthouse is completely false.
In relation to the situation in Hirimaradhoo, Police media official said that they are executing the court order issued from the Hirimaradhoo court. No further comments were made by the police.
