PPM meets with senior IPU officials

Senior officials from the ruling, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) met with senior officials from the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) last Thursday, says leader of PPM’s parliamentary group, Vilimale’ MP Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik.

Nihan tweeted that the meeting was attended by PPM members; Gemanafushi MP Jameel Usman, Naifaru MP Ahmed Shiyam, Kelaa MP Ali Arif, PPM’s Secretary-General Abdulla Khaleel, and himself.

They met with the President of IPU, Saber Hossain Chowdhury and Secretary-General of IPU, Martin Chungong.

The meeting took place in Geneva, Switzerland, and was also attended by the Maldivian Ambassador Dr. Hala Hameed.

During PPM’s trip, the delegation also met with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, in what Nihan described as a very fruitful meeting.

The delegation also met with the Swiss Ambassador to Asia-Pacific.

Nihan said the PPM delegation shared information on the political situation in Maldives to the agencies they met, and said all the meetings were fruitful.
