The passport of South Galolhu MP Ahmed Mahloof – who is currently in neighboring Sri Lanka – has been held by Maldivian authorities.
Mahloof reported to “Sun” that the court papers announcing that his passport has been held was sent to his residence in Male’ City last Tuesday. He said the authorities have accused him of being a fugitive.
Mahloof has denied he was on the run from law, and said that he believed he cannot continue with reform work unless in Maldives.
“I am currently in Sri Lanka for medical treatment. I will return to Male’ as soon as my treatment is complete,” said Mahloof.
Mahloof is suspected of obstructing military officers from performing their duty and assaulting military officers in an incident which took place in the People’s Majlis on July 31.
Maloof said his passport had already been held for the duration of one month over the same case, and that no investigation was carried out during that time.
Meanwhile, Central Henveyru MP Ali Azim and Nolhivaram MP Hussain Areef have been sent summons to attend police headquarters coming Thursday for their statements regarding the incidents on July 31.
