Maldives Correctional Service has declared Jumhoory Party leader Qasim Ibrahim a fugitive and requested police assistance to return him to Maldives.
Qasim – who is serving a three-year sentence for bribery – was given permission to travel to Singapore for medical treatment. He was given 27 days for his treatment, and ordered to return back to Maldives last Tuesday, October 3.
Police confirmed that MCS has requested the authority’s assistance in returning Qasim to Maldives, and stated that it will be taking action regarding the request according to procedure.
Qasim has stated that the doctors are not allowing him to fly back to Maldives due for health reasons.
Meanwhile, Qasim has filed a lawsuit against MCS for denying the request for an extension to his medical leave. The case has gone to trial.
