Secretary General of the Jumhooree Party (JP), Ahmed Sameer has said that their leader, Qasim Ibrahim, is not in hiding in Singapore and the police assistance is not required to find him.
Speaking at a press conference at the main JP hall, Kunooz today, Sameer said that Qasim is not in hiding and police assistance must be used to find bigger criminals.
Sameer said that Qasim could not return to the country on the deadline set by the Correctional Service because the airline would not allow him to fly since the doctors have not clear him for traveling. And ordering Qasim to return even after the events unfolded as it did is a major concern.
Qasim's lawyers, too, have said that he is not cleared to travel by the doctors.
And they have filed a suit against the Correctional Service for not extending the medical stay. That trial has now begun.
Qasim has been given a total of 27 days for treatment abroad. The deadline expired last night.
Qasim was sentenced to three years, two months and 12 days for bribery, in absentia, while at the hospital on August 24. His sentence was later amended and he was granted permission to serve his sentence under house arrest.
