Land reclamation for the Hulhule-Hulhumale’ Highway, which began last Thursday, is going at full swing, reports Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Ahmed Saiman.
Saiman said the highway or link road was the biggest project being run alongside the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge between Male’ City and Hulhumale’. He said the dredges needed to reclaim land for the highway had been brought in, and that the work was being completed at a fast pace.
The highway links the bridge between Male’ City and Hulhule’ to Hulhumale’.
Saiman said land reclamation will be completed by October 4, soon after which the corporation will start to build a seawall around where the highway will be built.
“We are aiming to complete the highway before the bridge is built. With the population of Hulhumale’ increasing day by day, this bridge will be an important development for the people of Male’ and Hulhumale’ and visitors,” said Saiman.
Bund walls for the highway were built earlier this month, while Boashima Hingun in Hulhumale’ has been cordoned off to build the highway, says HDC.
HDC reports the Hulhule-Hulhumale’ Highway will be compliant with international standards, and will be four kilometers longs with four lanes.
The highway will be able to accommodate all vehicles, irrespective of size, and will be paved with full water, electric and sewerage services, reports HDC.
