The government has signed an agreement with two private companies to create 1,000 job opportunities and train youths in G. A. Atoll.
The agreement was signed in the inauguration of the Mercure Maldives Kooddoo Resort – a city hotel developed in G. A. Kooddoo – last Monday night.
The two private companies which signed the agreement with the government are:
- Pristine Island Investment Private Limited
- Hotels and Resort Construction Private Limited
The agreement was signed on behalf of the government by Minister of Tourism, Moosa Zameer; on behalf of Pristine Island Investment by Chairman Ronald Leo; and on behalf of Hotels and Resort Construction by Chairman Mohamed Ali Janaah.
The event was attended by Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, who said the agreement would lead to creation of 1,000 job opportunities for the youth in the region.
“We are witnessing the creation of 1,000 job opportunities for the youth of just G. A. Atoll. And the signing of an agreement with the government to run training programs for these 1,000 youths. This is the first such official agreement,” said President Yameen.
Yameen said the investment to G. A. Atoll totaled USD 750 million, and said he hoped for the value of the investments to rise to USD 1 billion in the future.
He said it was a matter of great pride for the Maldivian people.
The Mercure Maldives Kooddoo Resort opened on Monday night has 68 villas; 43 water villas and 25 beach villas. 20 of the villas have 6x3-meter private swimming pools.
