Suspended lawyers file suit against DJA

The lawyers who were suspended following their petition to the Supreme Court to reform the Judicial System has filed a suit against the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA).

Suspension was lifted for 13 lawyers out of the original 56 suspended lawyers. The suit was filed at the civil court by the remaining 43 lawyers.

Lawyer Mahfooz Saeed said that their suit at the Civil Court requests to rule that suspending lawyers is not in the authority of the DJA.

A petition was filed by another 35 lawyers calling to life the suspension of the suspended lawyers.

The copy of the petition received to Sun Media include the signatures of the former Chief Justice, Ahmed Faaiz Hussain, former High Court Judge, D. Azmiralda Zahir and the MP for Makunudhoo constituency, Anaara Naeem.

The petition calls to investigate any suspicions before taking steps against anyone since only an investigation can reveal if action is necessary.
