Madam Fathun to Maduvvari and Meedhoo for by-election campaign

First Lady Faathimath Ibrahim has started a campaign tour today to the islands in the constituencies up for parliament by-election.

The first on her trip is Raa atoll Maduvvari. And sometime today, she would be arriving in Raa atoll Meedhoo.

When asked as to the purpose of the visit, by Sun Media, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, the MP for Hulhu-Henveiru constituency, Moosa Manik, who is traveling with the First Lady on the tour, confirmed it was campaign trip.

MP Moosa Manik said that the First Lady is on the tour to meet with the people.

While PPM has started their campaign for the by-election, the party is yet to decide on their candidates for the constituencies. Moosa said that the candidate selection process will begin once the Elections Commission announces the by-election.

The Elections Commission has previously said that by-elections will be held in a total of six constituencies. They are, Maduvvari, Dhiddhoo, Thulusdhoo, Dhangethi, Central Maafannu and Vilingli constituency.

The previous MPs of those constituencies have filed a motion at the Supreme Court requesting to hold the by-election.
