Authorities from Dubai have arrested a Maldivian attempting to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics into Maldives.

Maldives Police Service’s media official reported the suspect was arrested in a joint operation by Maldivian police and Dubai police. The suspect is a 40-year-old male and was attempting to smuggle the narcotics onboard a flight.

The exact quantity of the narcotics seized and the role of the Maldivian police in the operation has not been disclosed.

MPS said the authority was engaged in joint operations to stop the trade of narcotics with neighboring countries as well as Dubai. The media official gave no details.

A shipment of narcotics from Dubai to Maldives was also seized by authorities in April, this year. The 25-year-old suspect in the case was arrested from Velana International Airport upon arrival from Dubai with 578 grams of heroin.
