Murder suspect Mafaz’s remand extended for 3rd time

Mohamed Mafaz Hussain – suspect in the murder of 23-year-old Nadheem Abdul Raheem (Nadey) – has been remanded to police custody for 15 days in the third remand extension since his arrest.

Police media official reports the extension was granted by Criminal Court last Sunday.

He made no comment on the murder investigation.

Nadheem was stabbed while he was having a coffee at the Terminal Café, located in Lonuziyaaraih Magu of Male’ City on July 27 by a group of masked men.

He suffered multiple stab wounds to his face and body and passed away two days later at ADK Hospital without regaining consciousness.

Mafaz from G. Shaaraaz in Male’ City has a long criminal record for and was tagged and monitored under the MoniCon Order back when Umar Naseer was Minister of Home Affairs.

The court had ordered him to house arrest pending the outcome of his trial for violating the MoniCon Order, and later sentenced him to prison for the violation.

He was released from prison in April, 2017.

Mafaz was arrested on August 11, 14 days after Nadheem’s murder, from G. Jellyfishge.

He is a suspect in two cases; Nadheem’s murder and issue of threats to a group of individuals.
