South Thinadhoo MP Abdulla Ahmed (Abulho) has lost his parliamentary seat.
Member of Elections Commission, Ahmed Akram reported to “Sun” that the commission has removed Abulho’s name from the membership registry of Progressive Party of Maldives, at the request of the party, and informed the People’s Majlis of the change this Tuesday.
EC has announced that as per Supreme Court ruling on circumstances which results in loss of parliamentary seats, a parliamentarian will lose his/her seat the moment EC removes his/her name from party membership registry and informs the People’s Majlis of the change.
Abulho was elected to the parliament as a candidate of Jumhoory Party, but later switched parties to ruling PPM.
Six more PPM parliamentarians who were removed from the party’s membership registry; Thulusdhoo MP Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim (Lawyer Wadde), Maduvvari MP Mohamed Ameeth, Vilingili MP Saud Hussain, Dhidhdhoo MP Abdul Latheef Mohamed, South Machangolhi MP Abdulla Sinan, and Dhangethi MP Ilhaam Ahmed have all lost their parliamentary seats.
EC reports by-elections will be held for the constituencies as soon as administrative arrangements are made.
