AAMIR KHAN TALKS 'BELLY' IN DELHI

(AP) - Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, who has produced the recently-released irreverent comedy "Delhi Belly," is happy with the film's strong opening in India over the weekend.

"Wherever I go, I just see people laughing and having a good time. I'm happy about that," said Khan at a press conference in New Delhi on Monday (4 JULY 2011).

In spite of the film's expletive-ridden dialogues, it is doing well in both small towns and cities.

But it has been banned in neighboring Pakistan and Nepal.

Khan said he was happy that the Indian censor board reacted in a mature way and cleared the film with adult certification.

He hoped Nepal would follow suit.

"I'm hoping that the censor board of Nepal realizes that the people of Nepal are adults, so they can decide on their own what they want to see and what not. But it's obvious that if we do not follow their laws and rules, then our films cannot release there," he said.

The producer also reacted to recent comments from superstar Amitabh Bachchan about one of the songs featured in "Delhi Belly."

In a recent interview, Bachchan said that he wouldn't do a song like "D K Bose" due to its adult nature.

Khan said he respected and appreciated Bachchan's discomfort.

"He is totally within his rights to decide for himself what kind of work he would like to do like all of us are," he explained.

Khan also acknowledged that he did not lay claim to the term "D K Bose," over which he was sent a legal notice by artist duo Jiten Thukral and Sumir Tagra, creators of Bosedk designs.

"Nowadays, it has become a trend... you know, every film that is released, every producer gets at least 3-4 notices for some reason or the other," he said.

"Once I met with both of these young boys, I realized that, you know, that is not their intention. They were not trying to attack me that way at all. They were not at all trying to arm-twist me, that was not their attempt. I was introduced to their work which has been around for long time. It's not something that has happened yesterday - the work that they have been doing. So, I understand that they are coming from a different space, they are not coming from that space."

"Delhi Belly" stars Imran Khan, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Poorna Jagannathan, Vir Das and Shenaz Treasurywala.
