Leader of the Jumhooree Party, Qasim Ibrahim, has been advised to go abroad for treatment by the doctors of the state hospital, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in case delays in treatment could be life threatening.
Qasim, who is also the MP for Maamigili constituency, fainted inside the courtroom in the middle of his hearing today and was immediately taken to the hospital.
Today's hearing had the testimonies from the defense on the evidence and the closing statements on the agenda. But the hearing was put to a halt after Qasim collapsed.
Qasim was charged with bribery after he made a comment saying that would let the MPs of JP, who left the party for PPM run for reelection on the JP ticket if they rejoin the party.
The document from the IGMH Cardiologist, Dr. Ali Shafeeq regarding to Qasim's state says that Qasim should seek treatment abroad as soon as possible since the treatment required is not available at the hospital and delays could be life threatening to the patient.
In a tweet sent out by the former Prosecutor General, Hussain Shameem, with the doctor's document, he called for the courts to release Qasim's passport immediately.
While the state hospital has advised that Qasim go abroad for treatment, ADK Hospital, Medica Hospital and IGMH has previously said that Qasim needs a major heart surgery.
Earlier this month when Qasim was at the ADK Hospital ICU, Cardiac doctor at the hospital, Dr. Prateek Singh Bhadauria issued a statement saying that Qasim needs an emergency scan that is currently not available in the country.
But Qasim could not go abroad for treatment since his passport has been held by the authorities.
