Committee approves Mundhu for Ambassador to Sri Lanka

National Security Council of the parliament has approved the Presidential nominee for the Maldivian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu).

No MPs of the opposition in the committee took part in the session today that made the approval.

As to why that is, the opposition MPs have been saying that the parliament sitting today was conducted outside the law, the procedures sent to the committee would not be valid if the sitting itself is invalid.

Today's sitting also passed a vote for the country to take part in the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).

While another sitting of the parliament has been set for tomorrow, the approval has been put on the agenda.

He is the current Maldivian Ambassador to Japan. It is unclear as to his dismissal from the position.

The former Maldivian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Zahiya Zareer was dismissed from the position for unknown reasons.
