Will not hesitate in punishing those who attack Police and MNDF: President

President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said that the government will not hesitate in punishing those who encourage and call for attacks on Police and MNDF Officers.

The President said via a statement that such attacks will not be tolerated, and assured Maldivians that justice will be done to those who encourage such activity.

Noting that every citizen is equal before the law, the President urged all institutions responsible for ensuring justice in the country to give the strictest punishment for people responsible for such crimes.

The President said that he was deeply saddened by the news of the death of Police Lance Corporal Adam Haleem, and strongly condemned this crime.

He also extended condolences to Haleem’s family.

Haleem was stabbed to death while he was reporting to work last night in Kaashidhoo.

Police have arrested one person in relation to this crime. The suspect is Mohamed Samaah, 22, of Suvasa, Kaashidhoo.

Samaah had been arrested for assault three days ago, and was transferred to house arrest yesterday evening following a Court order.
