Musician Athif passes away

Popular musician, Ahmed Athif has passed away.

His death has been confirmed to “Sun” by a source close to the family.

Athif has a long record of service at Maldives National Defense Force. He rose to popularity as a key member of MNDF’s music band, The Cops Band.

He was working as Northern Area Deputy Commander and Head of Security at Hanimaadhoo Airport when he passed away.

Informational Officer at MNDF, Captain Ibrahim Azim reported to “Sun” that Athif hadn’t been sick prior to his death.

“He was apparently very active the night before as well. Athif normally wakes up and goes out at around 10 in the morning, even if just to have a coffee. But he didn’t come out today and was found dead,” said Azim.

Athif’s body is currently being kept at Hanimaadhoo Health Center.

Some of his most popular songs include "Dheynan Hithaa Jaana" and "Vaashey Mashaa Eky" which he sang for MNDF drama productions.
