Electronics destroyed due to powerful current from Vilingili powerhouse

Electronics at some of the houses at Gaafu Alifu Villingili has been destroyed due to a powerful current from the FENAKA powerhouse on the island.

President of the Vilingili Island Council, Mohamed Mustafa told Sun Media yesterday that the incident occurred while FENAKA was working to improve the quality of the electricity service.

Manager of the Vilingili FENAKA Corporation, Haitham Abdul Muhsin confirmed that an electrical issue occurred but he did not give any further information on the matter.

A high ranking official of the company told Sun Media today that the incident occurred while changing a transformer at the powerhouse. He said that it is believed that an electrical current damaged a number of electrical property on the island due to a powerful current released during the change.

The Regional Center has been notified by the Vilingili FENAKA to make a full assessment to recognize how the incident occurred and the estimated damage according to the official.

When asked if FENAKA is going to compensate for the damages caused to property, the official said that it would take a full assessment to see how it would go and they need to know how it happened to understand the situation.
