Water enters water into houses in Milandhoo flood

Torrential rains in Shaviyani atoll Milandhoo has caused a flood on the island.

President of the Milandhoo Island Council, Ahmed Shiyam told Sun Media that the rains started early last night and has continued through out the day flooding the island and the water entering some houses.

Shiyam said that the rain died down a bit in the afternoon and the council is working to providing assistance to the houses that were damaged in the flood.

The Council President said that they are working with the police to install sandbags at the houses at risk of water and protecting electronics from water.

Over 40 houses on the island has been affected by the flood according to the Island Council and water pumps are being used to divert water off the island.

While MIlandhoo has been flooded in torrential rains, a white weather alert has been issued from Haa Alifu atoll to Laamu atoll. The Met Office said that heavy rain with thunderstorms are expected in the alert region with wind speeds up to 40 mph.
