Azeema resigns as Governor of MMA

Dr. Azeema Adam has resigned from her post as Governor of central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

Dr. Azeema announced her resignation in a function held at MMA this Wednesday morning.

She said she and her family were moving out of the country as her husband has been appointed the new Maldivian Ambassador at United Nations. She said she did not wish to remain in her post and work from abroad.

Azeema said her post as Governor of MMA had been hear dream job.

“I resign from this post happy and satisfied in the belief I have provided service and benefit – no matter how small – to MMA, Maldivian government, the State, and the people of Maldives,” said Azeema, announcing her resignation.

Azeema said establishing an efficient monetary policy to maintain price stability in the country had been one of her proudest accomplishments during her service as Governor. She said she was satisfied with her contribution in stabilizing the foreign exchange market and prices.

She said she was also satisfied to have brought development to the country’s monetary system.

“The satisfaction of having made the legal framework more efficient to maintain the stability of the monetary system. The satisfaction of having successfully run a credit guarantee scheme for the development of small and medium enterprises,” said Azeema.

She said she was also proud of the new Maldivian currency note series with the additional security features.

Azeema thanked all her employees, the MMA Board of Directors and heads of financial institutions.

She was appointed Governor of MMA on April 14, 2014.
