90 percent of Maldivian flights full for Eid holidays

With high demand for domestic and international travel for the Eid al-Adha holidays after the Hajj Pilgrimage, the national airline Maldivian has declared 90 percent of their flights for the holidays.

While the number of Maldivians traveling abroad for their holidays increasing, there are a number a number of people traveling to enjoy the Eid festivities in the atolls.

Media Coordinator of Maldivian, Ali Nashaath Hameed said that the holidays after the Hajj has always been a time of high demand for Maldivian flights. And although there are only two weeks for the Eid, 90 percent of the domestic and international flights are full.

Nashaath said that the demand is highest for their flights to Hanimaadhoo and Addu City. He said that the demand for Trivandrum flights are high as well.

He said that they have noticed a level of planning ahead for the holidays which is different from the past years with early reservations and some people taking their tickets as early as a month.

Eid al-Adha lands on 1 September this year and so the state employees will get four days as holidays. The government his yet to make an official decision on the length of the holidays.
