MP Ali Hussain gives statement in parliament breach case

Maldives Police Services has taken a statement from the MP for Kendhoo constituency, Ali Hussain regarding the breaching of police line and forcing into the parliament on 14 July 2017.

The statement has been taken at the second time MP Hussain was summoned to the police. He was first ordered to appear yesterday but the police asked him to return today with legal representation.

MP Ali Hussain's legal representation said that the police suspect the MP of obstructing police duties.

The lawyer said that the MP gave a detailed statement describing the events that took place on 24 July 2017 from Maafannu Kunooz to reaching at the parliament. The lawyer said that the police did not give a specific date to come back for a follow up of the statement.

Aside from MP Ali Hussain, a number of parliamentarians were arrested and summoned to the police in relation to the incident.

The MPs are being charged with obstruction of police duties, instigating violence and trespassing.
