Parliamentarians under detention do not need to be allowed to attend People’s Majlis meetings, says Maldives Correctional Services.
MCS made the statement in a press release issued this Thursday.
MCS said the Parliament Immunity and Power Act ordered for parliamentarians detained for investigation or serving prison sentences to be allowed to attend People’s Majlis meetings, but that the relevant Article has since been cancelled by Supreme Court.
MSC, in the press release, asked that the media and lawyers refrain from spreading inaccurate news and creating distrust regarding the authority among the general population.
The statement comes after jailed Dhiggaru MP Faris Maumoon’s lawyer expressed concern over his client not being allowed to attend Majlis meetings.
