Malaysia-Maldives sign on cultural cooperation

Malaysia and the Maldives have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in culture, arts and heritage.

At a special ceremony held at the Malaysian Toursim Center today, the MoU was signed by the Secretary-General to Malaysian Tourism and Culture Ministry, Ab. Ghaffar A. Tambi and the Maldivian Ambassador to Malaysia Mohamed Fahmy Hassan.

Talking to Sun Media on the MoU, Ambassador Fahmy said that Malaysia and the Maldives had some issues in the past but the bilateral relations have been improving since President Yameen came to power. And so the agreement signed today serves as proof of that relationship.

Fahmy said that exhibitions in craftsmanship and music development opportunities are in the future for both countries and the agreement include the building of the Education Cultural Center in Malaysia.

A statement issued by the Malaysian Ministry said that bilateral relations would be enhanced through cooperation in culture, arts and heritage, and the principles of mutual respect and benefit, sovereignty and reciprocity would be strengthened under the MoU signed today.

With about 4,000 Maldivians living in Malaysia, it is popular destination a large number of Maldivian students as well.
