Cargo boat en route to Addu wrecks on reef

Cargo boat “Beyandaa 5” travelling from Male’ City to Addu City with shipment has wrecked on a reef near Alimatha Aquatic Resort in V. Atoll.

Maldives National Defense Force said the incident was reported to the authority at 3:30 am this Thursday. It said the Coastguard, along with a team of divers was attending to the situation.

“Beyandaa 5” – a boat belonging to Island Express is 90-feet long.

There were 11 foreigners and a Maldivian on board the boat when the incident took place.

MNDF reports all of none of them were injured during the incident.

Owners of the boat and MNDF’s Male’ Area Coastguard Squadron are working on towing the

boat.
