18-year-old injured in Link Road accident to be transported to Male’

An 18-year-old boy – one of the five young men injured in the car accident which took place in the Addu City Link Road last Wednesday night – needs to be transported to Male’ City for treatment, reports Hithadhoo Regional Hospital.

Senior Community Health Officer at Hithadhoo Regional Hospital, Mohamed Najeeb reported to “Sun” this Thursday that the 18-year-old boy injured his neck in the accident, and needed to be taken to Male’ City for scans and further treatment.

“His status isn’t that critical yet. But he needs to be sent to Male’ to assess the injuries to his neck,” said Najeeb.

Hithadhoo Regional Hospital has not been able to assess the injuries to his neck due to lack of scanning facilities.

Najeeb reported the other four young men taken to the hospital with the boy were in stable condition. He said one of the young men was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday night, and that the other three would be discharged this Thursday.

He said the four suffered only minor injuries such as scrapes.

The young men are aged 19 years, 20 years, and two of them are 21 years of age.

All five of them were inside a car as it raced down the Addu Link Road, lost control, crashed into a palm tree, flipped multiple times and finally stopped when it hit a pickup parked in the area.
