B. Kamadhoo by-election has been scheduled for August 19, reports Elections Commission (EC).
EC announced this Sunday that interested parties have the opportunity to send in candidacy forms until 1:30 pm of July 17.
EC said in the announcement that all candidates need to fit the criteria stated in Article 12 (a) of Local Council Election Act.
The commission has also opened the opportunity for Kamadhoo citizens to re-register for voting in other islands, as well as the opportunity to send in any complaints regarding the voter’s list.
The opportunity to send in complaints will be open until July 10.
The by-election is being held in Kamudhoo after the Vice President of Kamudhoo Council, Ali Mausoom resigned from the Council less than a week after he was sworn in.
Mausoom won his seat as a member of the opposition, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
