Colonel Nazim taken back to prison

Officers of the Maldives Correctional Services has gone to the residence of the former Defence Minister Colonel-retired Mohamed Nazim around 3:50 p.m. today, and taken him back to prison where he is serving an 11-year sentence for possession of a firearm.

He was transferred to house arrest on 26 April 2017.

Colonel-retired Nazim's brother, Adam Azim told Sun Media today that officers of the Correctional Service has come and Nazim is getting ready to go with them and will continue to abide the orders of the state.

Efforts to contact the Correctional Service for a comment have been unsuccessful so far.

While Nazim is set to be transferred back to prison from house arrest, in a letter to the Supreme Court, the former Vice President, Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Gafoor has said that the weapon and bullets discovered at Nazim's resident did not belong to the former Defence Minister.

He said that given the opportunity, he would reveal the truth about what happened if he was given the opportunity in a Maldivian courtroom.
